#ColemanCares – Animal Protection Society of Durham

Coleman likes to give back to the communities in which we work and live by encouraging every Coleman employee to dedicate 2 days each year to a CSR activity of their choosing. We think this is a really fabulous part of our culture which is why we launched the initiative, Coleman Cares.

Coleman Cares brings like-minded Coleman employees together to support a cause that is close to their hearts. Our latest endeavor has been to give back to the Animal Protection Society of Durham.

The Animal Protection Society of Durham (APS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that has been helping animals in the community since 1970, and has managed the Durham County Animal Shelter since 1990. APS relies on help from caring individuals and corporations to feed, shelter and provide medical attention for the nearly 5,000 stray, surrendered, abandoned, abused and neglected animals they care for each year. Their mission is to be a leader in building lifelong bonds between people and animals through education, community outreach and providing care for animals in need.

Our Coleman team assisted the group of employees at APS by cutting out a variety of adopted pet photos that would go on each table at their annual fundraiser. The team was especially impressed with how many animals had been adopted from the shelter and would hopefully inspire more people to adopt and donate more funds.

Our Coleman employees shared their thoughts on their experiences:

“I believe it is important for everyone to volunteer in order to discover other populations and industries that need our assistance. Whether it’s walking dogs at an animal shelter, reading to the elderly, or helping build new homes, it provides us with a different perspective on life and allows us to think outside of our own circumstances. Volunteering has a way of broadening our horizons and offers us the chance to help others in their time of need.” – Sector Specialist, Raleigh

“As a rescue dog mom myself, I’ve witnessed the impact of animal shelter volunteering first-hand. I’m so thankful that someone took care of my Guinness (or Guinea Pig, as I like to call him) before we found each other, and I loved getting to do the same. What a lot of people don’t realize is that some of these animals could spend years at shelters, which not only takes funding, but also SO much love so that they’re ready to go home when the time comes. You don’t even have to be a dog person, or a cat person… we helped the Animal Protection Society of Durham with their annual gala preparations! Of course, playing with Max for a few minutes was loads of fun, but knowing that our CSR day made a lasting impact on caring for more than just Max was the cherry on top!” – Associate, Raleigh

“This experience reminded me that is so important to be an advocate for people (and animals!) that need someone to have their best interests at heart. It’s great to be able to not only help the animals, but to be able to support the people that make caring for and saving animals their full-time jobs.” – Associate, Raleigh

“I think Coleman understands that we are a diverse company of people with many different interests, backgrounds and passions. These volunteer days are a great way to connect with other Colemanites on what is important to them (there were a lot of “my adoption stories shared) and to be able to contribute to a cause that we all really care about.” Associate Client Manager, Raleigh
